How our future children will have both parents as teachers?

- Sunday, 17 May 2020. to read...
It's been one year and four months, since living here in Dubai with Garvin and our lives together has shifted 360° since we got together in 2014.

Garvin has always been into sports, more specifically football, so it isn't a surprise that he completed a Sports Studies degree with Sports Management. What came as a shock was, when he decided that he would complete a teaching certificate in English for Primary and Secondary children. If you ask him, he would say it has been difficult relearning some things but his favorite topic so far would be on the subject of tenses (peep my sarcasm). I always told him I foresee him teaching younger kids, nothing distinctively but I always thought it would be maybe coaching young children in football, but God has a serious sense of humor in how things happen.
Gavin and I

When I came to the United Arab Emirates, I never knew that I would love teaching as much as I did. All of my plans throughout my life, every subject I completed, every degree that I have studied, has never led me to a career in teaching. It's funny how much we make plans and then God's plans are always elevated in the end. After my first official term of teaching which ended in 2019, I told Garvin, my parents and one of my really good friends that I am planning to complete another degree, a teaching degree. They were very supportive and here I am now one term almost complete.

With the current global pandemic, we are both home. I am still currently teaching online and doing my classes online, whilst Garvin is also completing his classes online. It's been quite entertaining watching Garvin go through his course work as his methods are quite opposite to mines. When he is asking me questions about starter and closing activities it really seems surreal that we are both going to be legitimate teachers when we are completed.

Sitting with my students before their exam
Garvin will complete in a months time whereas my degree is a bit more extensive and will be completed at the end of the year. After which we can travel to a great deal of countries in the world and teach allowing more exposure, more experience and greater earning potential for us both. The reasons we have for starting was building new and secure career paths alongside creating more opportunities. I can speak for myself in saying I really love what I am doing and when I have completed I would have updated my skill set from what was learnt through the MOE.

I am sure our future children would be over joyed to have teachers as parents.
