Art of perspective

| All across Glasgow there are many beautiful drawings painted on buildings, some times of day they tell a different story. This is the true art of perspective. |
As a society I believe
that we find it very difficult to accept that many people can have their own
personal preferences. Most times we cannot comprehend the simple analogy of
“different strokes, for different folks.” This type of thinking results in close
minded individuals who judge others, are quick to defend and are in fact, ignorant.
These types of people cannot begin to comprehend another idea or concept
outside of their regular thinking or ideology of something or someone.
Ask yourself these
questions, “do I tend to see the worst aspect of things or believe that
the worst will happen? Can I look further than this box I’ve built of a perfect
world? Do I believe everyone should act or react in a certain way?"
With social media being
the lime light of this generation, having the ability to have a different
perspective can go a long way.
Imagine a perfect life;
with everyone driving in a perfect car, with perfect families and financially,
emotionally, spiritually and mentally stable. Yea, that doesn’t exist...
I believe that social
media has a strong part to play in our opinions and feelings about certain
topics, but where does that end?
This difference in thinking doesn’t only stretch about topics on social media but beyond into our
everyday lives. The truth is if you want to make a difference in this
life, you have to model that difference in your thinking. The culture of
feeding off of negativity, over criticizing and pessimistic thinking allows a
lot of us to be trapped. This theoretical ideology that every person will fit the mold of your thinking
does not exist, the sooner this culture has stopped corrupting our lives, the
better.
1. EVERY PERSON IS
ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION AND PREFERENCE- Remember there are 7.6 billion people
in the world. Some of us may never even encounter a mere fraction of these
people but you will always encounter someone different from you, someone from a
different background, culture and belief system. How you decide to deal or
embrace that will make all the difference.
2. COMPLAINING
NEVER SOLVES ANYTHING- using your voice to complain or criticize something will
never affect the change you want to see, going out and making a difference can
however affect the change. Be open minded to difficult and questionable
situations, be kind and less judgmental.
3. DON'T TAKE
SOCIAL MEDIA SO SERIOUSLY- half the things you perceive and use to validate
something is inaccurate. Don’t go off on a caption you've read without knowing
the full story, it costs zero dollars to research further or actually read with
the intent to understand and not just judge. Social media should not validate
your perceptions of anything, in my opinion you been on it too much if you are
using this as a tool of validation. Life is happening around you and to be
honest the best things in life are illogical.
4. THERE IS
NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING DIFFERENT- similarities are there to comfort us into
this mold, we should be open to the many different things or people you will
face. Maybe then that person, who seems so queer or different than you, would
stop frustrating you that much.
5. FIGHT FOR
THINGS WORTH FIGHTING FOR- sometimes, an online argument on
Facebook is actually never worth your time or energy. Focus on changing that
mindset, enjoy and celebrate the little things going on around you and not what
other people are portraying online. Celebrate the good things and keep an open
mind.
“If you change the way
you look at things, the things you look at change” -Dr. Wayne Dyer
