Have you forgiven her/him ?

"Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, who sin is covered." - Psalm 32:1 

Forgiveness is one of the hardest things to do. We as humans find it hard within ourselves to forgive those who have wronged us. The first step in forgiveness is knowing what it is.      

Forgiveness is 'the intentional and voluntary process by which a victim undergoes a change in feelings and attitude regarding an offense, lets go of negative emotions such as vengefulness, from the offender, however legally or morally justified it might be and with an increased ability to wish the offender well.' 

Forgiveness therefore in itself is a divine attribute. When you do not forgive someone , you eventually turn into that person. This power you give to someone can overcome you. As much as we know about forgiveness, we also know it's not an easy thing to do and it takes time. I would definitely advise though, don't take too much time in progressing to forgive someone.

Another construct about forgiveness is, it plays a part in happiness. Self evaluation would tell you, you could never be genuinely happy without forgiveness in your heart. Letting go of all the hurt, betrayal, dis-loyalties, heartache is moving yourself into a new sense of happiness and freedom from all those things that weigh you down. Let go of all that weight!

Let's be clear, forgiveness does NOT mean to allow others to take advantage of you, to forget what happened and to condone the offense that has occurred.  In addition, sometimes we need to sit and think, 'was there a valid offense or valid cause for an act of forgiveness?' The bible states,

" Do not be quick to take offense for taking of offense is the mark of a fool " - Ecclesiastes 7:9  

Remember be empathetic, be reasonable, forgiveness is a process and know that forgiveness isn't for the offender but for yourself. 

Like seasons come and go and like the clouds... let the hurt float away
