Ever since I was small I wrote notes on things like:
- My spiritual goals
- Where I wanted to be by a certain age
- The impact I wanted to make on the world
- How much money I'd be making
- How I'd like to help my family and friends
- Certain things I wanted to accomplish
Each year I'd try to cross one thing off my list, and each year as I grew the note might change or something might be added. At the end I'd say a prayer over the note and put it away.
Let me tell you the power of prayer and speaking things over your life, i.e. A written word of your life (year after year I've seen it).
Some examples of the things I'd write down that has come to past; attending St. Joseph's Convent, St. Joseph, finishing my degree within four years, becoming a forensic scientist, having a picture with both my parents I can be proud of, working in a job where I can help people, being engaged by 25, owning my dream car by 25... my list goes on , nothing was too simple and nothing was impossible.
Having a list or things written down, gives you a sense of achievement and a record of the past. Looking back on things what once was and what is can be truly satisfying and rewarding. The sense of gratitude is also increased in those moments. Written words also makes you more committed. It gives you an extra push of motivation, focusing on the more attainable ones at first and working your way to the top. Giving that extra time to write things down also gives you time to self reflect, clear your mind and provides a great way to strengthen and process your emotions.
I strongly recommend and encourage you to write things down, it literally can change the way you live your life and the direction it takes.
About one week ago, I was speaking to my friend, we were discussing plans for the future, and I was explaining to her as time has elapsed, my list of plans for the future and goals at the moment are little and barely existent. And it was at that point she said to me you are living you life "unwritten" and I totally agreed. And it's not because I don't strongly believe in writing things down but because things that I have written down has come to past and now I'm giving God the opportunity to scratch some things off His list/s in which He wants or needs for/from me.
In the Collins Dictionary the word 'unwritten' is described as "something that has not been printed or written down", such as a book.
The Oxford Dictionary states the word 'unwritten' means "not recorded in writing".
In the case of law, 'unwritten' can be defined as "resting originally on custom or judicial decision rather than on statute".
The new author of my list/s has been God. My "unwritten" future is now solely based on God's will. Things I have accomplished, seen, done, continue to do and become, which has all been on my lists, I can happily write today and say most things, have been scratched off. Now I have total reliance on God's will for me, which has been exciting and rewarding thus far.
